Ingredients (Cake)
- 4 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 stick real butter
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup Crisco
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 well beaten eggs
Directions (Cake)
Bring cocoa, butter, water, and Crisco to a boil. Take off the burner then add sugar, flour, baking soda, and salt. Beat until well mixed, and then add vanilla, buttermilk, and eggs.
Pour into a greased and floured 13 x 9 pan and bake at 400 for 30 minutes.
Ingredients (Icing)
- 4 tablespoons cocoa
- 6 tablespoons milk
- 1 stick of real butter
- 1 box of powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
Directions (Icing)
Note: icing should be made RIGHT before cake is finished baking as you will pour the hot frosting over the hot cake.
In saucepan on top of stove, bring to a boil cocoa, milk, and butter, and mix well.
Remove from heat and add powdered sugar and vanilla.
Mix well with mixer and pour over hot cake. Cool before cutting.
If you like nuts in your chocolate, you can add chopped nuts to the top of the hot cake and then pour the icing over the nuts.
