Wheat Bread

Everyone asks for the recipe for these rolls.  My mom always says that they are easy to make, but no one else’s ever taste like hers.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk (lukewarm)
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons yeast
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 3 1/2 cups white flour (add whatever flour to keep from being sticky)

Directions

Combine the milk and yeast.  Then add the rest of the ingredients and mix up well.  Put a little bit of oil in the bottom of a big bowl.  Put bread dough down in oil.  Spread the oil around the bowl with the bread dough and turn the bread dough over.  Let that raise until double.  Punch down and make into rolls.  Let rise until double.  The dough makes 30 small rolls or 3 loaves.  Bake @ 400 F for 10 minutes.
